11 Pretty in Pink Web Designs
Submitted by Richard Dewick on Fri, 04/07/2008 - 13:27.

Pink is a colour that stands alone from most others, what hue you choose can change the look and feel of your web design.
Girls love pink and may even be biologically programmed to prefer it according to a Study: Why Girls Like Pink detailed in TIME magazine.
I've used pink in many web designs and love the contrast it gives against a cool grey, come on lads don't be afraid to say you like it too!
So below I've picked out 11 designs that use the colour pink in varying ways but all with a great end result, enjoy.

Pink...
... never looked so cool!
Colour Blind Demographics
I like some pinks in some instances. I tend to dislike excessive or 'barbie' pinks - except in roses :) I'd go further and say that I've seen screens that I've immediately closed because of excessive pinks - but then I read the Guardian supplement so make of that what you will.
I did a very tiny bit of qualitative research (I asked my brother who is colour blind); he tells me that he sees pink as grey. A further little bit of research on Wiki states, if I've understood it correctly that between 7-10% of US males are colour blind - it did a breakdown into 3 ethnic groups and 8% of caucasians males are affected. (Colour blindness is more often but not exclusively, a sex-linked inherited male condition) Further information from Wiki states that the colour blindness tends more often towards difficulties in perceiving the red/green tones, which affects pinks. (This makes me wonder if you are targetting the so called 'Pink Pound', how many can actually see it?)
Perhaps the intended demographics for the website will not make any difference?
If the factor of demographics is a serious consideration in the intended graphics, it may become very worthwhile to review the design in monochrome to see if the graphics are still clearly defined as what is very obviously defined in colour can be tonally, very similar and undefined.
Hope this is helpful.
regards,
Janine
Important considerations
Thanks for the detailed comment Janine. An important point that you pick up on is the demographics of your user audience. If your site is aimed squarely at a male audience then your colour selection is vitally important so as not to alientate or put off a reasonable percentage of people that are colour blind.
I am aware my own colour selection for this site can be difficult for some readers which is why I've gone to great lengths to make it easier on the eye. Things such as short paragraphs and plenty of leading that do not affect the overall design are just 2 considerations.
If you find this site hard to read do let me know, I cherish all comments made on this blog.
Thanks again Janine.
thanks
Thanks for mentioning me ;)
