We Know Who You Are!

Fake Avatar

Social Media Marketing is something that we all take part in, spreading our brand far and wide across the net. Often the desire to gain greater traffic leads to multiple social accounts which to some people is cheating, to others it's just playing the game.

I'd had this blog post tucked away in my drafts for a while but this article Tiers of Transparency: The Ethical Brand Ambassador brought the whole issue back to my attention. Now whether it is right or wrong is something I'm not going to get into here but all I will say is that it's here, it's not going away and you're probably not going to be able to stop it! If you want to read a more serious post then Lisa Barone The Use of Fake and Michael Gray's Fake Social Media Profiles can help you there.

On a lighter note I thought I'd ask a few socialites for some creative thoughts to see what they could come up with as alternative accounts for themselves!

Bio: HotChic is a 99 year old woman from Tibet in a complicated relationship. I am a self-proclaimed social media sprite and a top user on Digg and Propeller. I was first in line for an account on Identica as I think it's the next big thing. Please don't shout me more than 15 times a day, no spammers! My eye sight is going but I love all those sites from the early days of the interweb, those big blocks of garish colours.

Bio: I'm a 16 yr old weed addict from Bangkok, Thailand. Weed is the solution to all my problems, I just get high so that I don't feel bad manipulating the social sites and voting for all my friends stories. Feel free to add me as a friend and I might share some love your way the next time I smoke. My most common search terms on StumbleUpon are 'funny stuff' and 'im bored'.

Don't drink and drive, smoke weed and fly

Well, uh, er, um..I'm a 20 yr old Georgia peach. I believe everything anyone ever tells me, like fer sher, because I so totally want peace in the world. When someone deceives me or is cruel, I just giggle and pray for them, cause like fer sher, I'm sure they didn't mean it. Um, who I'd like to meet? Well, gosh, I've always wanted to meet Aunt Jemimah, but like, I hear she's dead or maybe was never Aunt Jemimah, which kinda broke my heart and all.

Username: SemmifreddoBio
Semmifreddo was born in a small town in Transylvania. It was assumed right from the start that she would be 'something in communication' since she started to communicate when she was only days old and ever since no one could shut her up. Her remarkable powers of communication and razor sharp wit mean that she is the perfect choice for any project you need executing online, and if you have an online enemy you'd like to have executed, nobody does that better than Semmifreddo.

She is particularly good at getting you noticed via her social media accounts. However, her particular forte is bringing down your competition, which she does subtly while in stealth mode, using her social media accounts and collaboration from her many social media friends (aka people who owe her one).

Person Semmifreddo would most like to meet: Marie Antoinette

Place Semmifreddo would most like to visit: Disneyland

Semmifreddo can be found reading The Hobbit and watching Sesame Street whenever she's not engaged online.

I know you're dying to ask, so I'm' going to include this too: Semmidfreddos enviable outfits are all from the BBC's costume department.

Fake social media profiles

Fake social media profiles are really not the best thing if you want to get people to visit your site..you have to first start building up their trust on you..this is done by first showing them who you really are.

Trust is the key

I would have to agree, trust is a key element in connecting to people and your profile goes a long way to doing this. Tad has a great post on how trust helped his blog gain subscribers.

Just being anonymous

But here on the Internet, where you cant trust noone. Its better to remain as anonymous as one can be.

All very amusing profiles.

All very amusing profiles. You nearly made me pee myself.

Seriously though I found this post while looking for something else and I have to admit this is actually the first time I've ever of fake social media profiles. (Not really big into the whole idea of social media yet, reading blogs is as far as I usually go)

Anyway thanks for drawing my attention to it.

Fake Profiles

Fake profiles are out there and if you're new to SMM then this might come as a surprise. Thanks for the comment, glad it brought a smile to your face :)
